Veteran property developer group Capitaland will be opening 2 shopping malls in the next week. One of them is Westgate in Jurong East. The opening of West Gate also marks the return of international book store Borders, whose shutdown previously in Wheelock place disappointed many keen fans of the bookstore. Westgate will have a total retail space of 410,000sqft.
According to sources, Westgate shopping mall will have a strong concentration of Japanese restaurants in the mall. About 30% of the mall will cater to Japanese food lovers that will spread through the 7 floors in the mall. Some of the new Japanese brand includes Kinoshita which is quite famous in Japan. Westgate will also feature Isetan, which will be opening its first outlet outside the central region. Well-known Korean electronics brand Samsung will also open its store in Westmall as well. It will feature a 6,000sqft space.
New Shopping Malls near Condos
In the east, Bedok Mall will be opening next week. It will feature around 200 shops and comprises of three levels. Sources indicated that Bedok Mall will be around the size of Junction 8 in Bishan and will be one of the larger shopping malls in the island. Many established brands will be in Bedok Mall as well including Charles & Keith and G2000.
Recently, property launches that are close to shopping malls have been doing very well lately. In particular, J Gateway in Jurong East which is right beside J Cube has been sold out in one day and was considered one of the better launches sold to late.
Riverbank Condo at Fernvale may receive very good response as it is near Seletar Mall which will open very soon. Moreover, the price which the developer has bid for the land is very low which will translate to lower launching price by the developer.
